Can I create a Power of Attorney without a lawyer?

The Province of British Columbia has a link to a free form of Power of Attorney that can be filled out and properly signed without any lawyer involvement.

If you want the Power of Attorney to be capable of transferring property registered in the Land Title registry, though, you will need the document witnessed by a lawyer or notary. And the way the free form is drafted, it will be capable of Land Title transactions only for three years.

Lawyers draft Powers of Attorney that contain clearly described and helpful powers that go beyond the free form.
