What is a Representation Agreement?

British Columbia law allows you to name a representative to make critical health care as well as day to day health and personal care decisions on your behalf when you do not have the cognitive capacity to make those decisions yourself.

The document allowing you to name a representative is called a Representative Agreement.

You will always have authority and be asked directly to make your own decisions so long as you have the cognitive capacity to do so. Your representative will be consulted only in emergency situations or after you have lost that cognitive capacity.
